Roy Hargrove’s “Crazy Race” is a funky jazz piece with a five-note descending figure that the late trumpeter recorded in 2005.

Pianist Emmet Cohen, his trio with bassist Russell Hall and drummer Bryan Carter, and two notable guests (singer Cyrille Aimée and trumpeter Wayne Tucker) explore the piece in a swinging, grooving and sometimes humorous fashion.

There are fine solos by Tucker, Cohen, and Hall before the singer takes “Crazy Race” out with her creative and colorful scat-singing.
