Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and altoist Sonny Stitt played together on an occasional basis starting in the mid-1940s.
They were both part of the Giants Of Jazz sextet in the early 1970s and then went on a European tour with a pianoless quintet in 1974.
After Dizzy talks a bit, Gillespie and Stitt (along with guitarist Al Gafa, bassist Earl May, and drummer Mickey Roker) revive the trumpeter’s famous standard “Groovin’ High”; Dizzy is in particularly excellent form.
