Ever since she emerged around 2005, trumpeter-singer Bria Skonberg has been a potent force in jazz.
Based in classic jazz and swing but also performing occasional originals and more modern jazz, Bria Skonberg is a technically skilled trumpeter with the right sound for early jazz, and a charming Peggy Lee-inspired singer.
From 2020, she performs Louis Armstrong’s “Cornet Chop Suey” with pianist Ben Paterson, guitarist Doug Wamble, bassist Devin Starks, and drummer Darrian Douglas.
The 1926 classic is given New Orleans parade rhythms at first before becoming quite uptempo with Bria Skonberg quoting Armstrong’s recording but also playing fresh ideas of her own.
