Few composers of the 20th century can be said to have largely invented a new style.
While Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-94) was not the only founder of bossa-nova, he was its top composer and wrote more than a dozen standards that led to the popularization of the music.
At a special concert in 1994 held just six months before his death, Jobim performed a duet with guitarist Pat Metheny.
Jobim is on piano and sings his “How Insensitive” while Metheny accompanies him and takes a short and tasteful solo.
The performance is quietly emotional and a bit touching.
