A group of current all-stars at the 2020 Litchfield Jazz Festival perform the only song that Charlie Parker wrote in a minor key, “Segment.”
Saxophonist Kris Allen heads a quintet also featuring trumpeter Bruce Harris, pianist Jen Allen, bassist Zwelahke Duma Bell le Pere, and drummer Jonathan Barber.
While they normally all play in more modern settings, the young musicians stick to the bebop vocabulary during this energetic performance with Harris and Barber (who has a lot of drum breaks) taking honors.
