The WDR Big Band has long been one of the top jazz orchestras, a versatile full-time ensemble that often welcomes notable guests.

In 2003 the orchestra was joined by tenor-saxophonist Michael Brecker, trumpeter Randy Brecker, drummer Peter Erskine, keyboardist Jim Beard, and electric bassist Will Lee for a performance of Michael Brecker’s funky “Strap-Hangin’.”

With Vince Mendoza providing the arrangement and Erskine driving the band, Michael Brecker takes an explosive solo, Randy Brecker contributes a lyrical statement that contains some fireworks, and the siblings conclude the piece with an exciting tradeoff.
