One of the greatest trumpeters of all time, Freddie Hubbard was at his prime from the early 1960s until the early 1990s.
At the 1986 Blue Note Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival before a very appreciative crowd, Hubbard is heard in peak form while accompanied by pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Buster Williams, and drummer Billy Higgins.
Stretching out on flugelhorn, Hubbard creates a memorable version of “Misty” that is filled with bluesy and occasionally growling notes, double-time runs, melodic variations, and his warm tone.
