Ever since he began recording in 1993, Brad Mehldau has been considered one of the most influential pianists in jazz.

In 2025 he toured in a trio with bassist Christian McBride (with whom he had never recorded before) and drummer Marcus Gilmore who had appeared on just one album with Mehldau back in 2009.

While this is very much an all-star trio and the performance (the ballad “Young And Foolish” which was associated with Bill Evans) begins with McBride taking a bowed bass solo, Mehldau is the dominant voice.

The pianist has the main solo and is featured throughout including during the tender closing section.
