There was a time in the 1950s when it appeared that the clarinet was doomed to become a minor instrument; those days are long gone.
Three of the top clarinetists of the 21st century, Anat Cohen, Ken Peplowski and Evan Christopher (they solo in that order), are featured on an uptempo version of Louis Armstrong’s “Swing That Music.”
Performed at the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival, the clarinetists are joined by pianist Ehud Asherie (whose own solo is pretty impressive), guitarist Howard Alden, bassist Greg Cohen, and drummer Lewis Nash for a heated performance with plenty of fireworks occurring.
