Altoist Immanuel Wilkins, who led three impressive albums during 2020-2024, emerged as one of the promising of the younger saxophonists active during that time period.

While he often plays with great passion, he is relatively restrained although still explorative during this version of “Grace and Mercy” from 2024.

Joined by the Frankfurt Radio Big Band which is conducted by Miho Hazama, Wilkins follows concise solos from pianist Sebastian Sobel and flugelhornist Martin Auer.

Wilkins flies over the ensembles during this tasteful yet quietly stirring performance.
