Come On Home

Jon Hendricks

Hendricks & Company perform their version of a famous Horace Silver recording

Years after the premiere jazz vocal group Lambert, Hendricks and Ross broke up, Jon Hendricks (“the genius of vocalese”) formed Hendricks and Company with his wife and daughter.

The band, with Kevin Fitzgerald Burke giving the ensemble a fourth voice, performs their version of Horace Silver’s recording of “Come On Home” which Silver recorded with his quintet in 1959.

This performance, from July 19, 1991, has the vocalists singing Hendricks’ lyrics to the notes originally played by trumpeter Blue Mitchell, tenor-saxophonist Junior Cook and pianist Silver, turning the solos into mini-compositions of their own.

Personnel;

Jon Hendricks, vocals
Aria Hendricks, vocals
Judith Hendricks, vocals
Kevin Fitzgerald Burke, vocals
Renato Chicco, piano
Tyler Mitchell, bass
Reggie Nicholson, drums
