Don’t Give Up

Gil Scott-Heron

The poet conveys a hopeful message

The great poet and lyricist Gil Scott-Heron was a masterful social commentator whose words and poetry were full of hard truths and wistful hope.

“Don’t Give Up,” a video from the later part of Scott-Heron’s life, has him emphasizing hope over despair while being honest about reality.

The song was originally part of Gil Scott-Heron’s 1994 album Spirits.
