Though he began mainly a tenor player and flutist Ronald Kirk came to favor two obscure saxophones, the stritch a long straight alto sax lacking an upturned bell, and the manzello a modified soprano with a bell.
Kirk became known for harmonizing with himself while playing a number of horns at once.
