Frank Morgan (1933-2007) overcame a ruinous drug addiction and a long period off the scene to make a major comeback, playing at his absolute best during his final 20 years.

For this appearance from 2003, the altoist is joined by an all-star rhythm section comprised of pianist Ronnie Matthews, bassist Buster Williams, and the underrated but powerful drummer Ronnie Burrage.

Matthews and Burrage take fine solos before Morgan gets to cut loose, digging into Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night In Tunisia” and displaying his mastery of the bebop vocabulary.
