Cannonball Adderley’s Sextet: six of the best at their best. Adderley worked with several top notch people in his various quintets and sextets, but this combo really worked.

Here Yusuf Lateef is featured in a lovely, haunting flute rendition of “Angel Eyes”. He was strongly influenced by Eastern music and instruments and used bamboo flute, shofar, and koto, among others, in his own compositions.

By the way, “Cannonball” came from Julian’s high school nickname “Cannibal” which he got because of his voracious appetite.

Live in Lugano, Switzerland 1963
