Drummer Louis Hayes who was featured on this clip was born in Detroit and already leading a band as a teenager in that city.

An immensely respected drummer, three of the highlight of his varied and highly productive career include stints with Horace Silver’s Quintet (1956–1959), the Cannonball Adderley Quintet (1959–1965), and the Oscar Peterson Trio (1965–1967).

Over the years, he’s played with Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Kenny Barron, James Spaulding, Louis Hayes Sextet, Woody Shaw, Junior Cook, John Coltrane, Kenny Burrell, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Timmons, Hank Mobley, Booker Little, Tommy Flanagan, Cecil Taylor, McCoy Tyner, Ray Brown, Joe Henderson, Gary Bartz, Tony Williams and Dexter Gordon.

This clip was filmed at a live concert held in Switzerland in 1963.
