Bill Henderson (1926-2016) was a powerful jazz/blues/swing singer in the tradition of Joe Williams and Jimmy Witherspoon.
At the time of this Oct. 9, 1958 performance at the Art Ford Jazz Party, Henderson was 32, was newly arrived in New York from Chicago, and had recently recorded “Senor Blues” with Horace Silver.
Henderson digs into “Baby, Won’t You Please Come Home,” singing two fine choruses with the assistance of trumpeter Buck Clayton, tenor-saxophonist Georgie Auld, and a top-notch rhythm section.
