Jackson wrote this one and it’s become a jazz standard. Bag’s is a nickname he picked up in Detroit.

Dizzy Gillespie discovered him in 1946 and also kept him for larger ensembles and right out the gate he had gigs with Woody Herman, Howard McGhee, Thelonious Monk, and Charlie Parker.

He became best known for his work with the “Modern Jazz Quartet.”
