Throughout his career, trumpeter Dave Douglas has frequently played the unexpected as he explores a wide variety of music ranging from free explorations, tributes to Miles Davis and Mary Lou Williams, and Balkan music.

“Beware Of Doug” is a relatively straight ahead if slightly eccentric original that Douglas performs with tenor-saxophonist Jon Irabagon, pianist Matt Mitchell, bassist Linda Oh, and drummer Rudy Royston.

The quirky original, a little reminiscent of what one might have heard from Keith Jarrett’s 1970s quartet with Dewey Redman, gives each of the musicians brief solos and an opportunity to swing joyfully.
