Saxophonist and producer Houston Person was born on November 10, 1934 in Florence, South Carolina.

Person developed his bluesy, full-bodied tone while working with soul jazz organist Johnny Hammond in the mid-‘60s.

In addition to his numerous albums as a leader, (the last of which was released in 2014) Person was a long time collaborator of Etta James.

Prolific…Person has recorded over 75 albums as a leader.

A master of hard bop and swing, he’s best known for his soul jazz.
