Buddy Rich (1917-87) was arguably the greatest drummer of all time; certainly on a technical level, very few others could come close.
He led big bands during 1946-49 with on and off success although its boppish music was quite rewarding.
On this film short, the great vibraphonist Terry Gibbs is showcased on “Burn,” and then Rich takes a powerful drum solo on “Not So Quiet Please”; the tenor watching Gibbs during “Burn” is Allen Eager.
