Barney Bigard (1906-80) was a major clarinetist with a distinctive sound who was most famous for having long stints with Duke Ellington (1927-42) and Louis Armstrong (1947-55).

Bigard also worked with King Oliver (as an excellent tenor-saxophonist) during 1926 and had a long solo career.

From 1968, Bigard is featured on an uptempo version of “C Jam Blues” with pianist Art Hodes (the host of this television series), bassist Rails Wilson, and drummer Bob Cousins.
