Oscar Peterson

Tokyo, 1987

Oscar Peterson is joined by guitar virtuoso Joe Pass for a performance of “Cakewalk” at a 1987 concert in Tokyo, Japan.

Although Peterson never recorded the composition in a studio, it was a staple of his live performances from the early ’80s onward. The song is unique for its fusion of a rollicking stride left hand and an intricate bebop melody in the right.
