“Nigerian Marketplace,” an Oscar Peterson original, made its first appearance on an early ’80s album of the same name – a live album recorded at the Montreux Jazz festival. On that album Peterson was joined by fellow jazz greats Charlie Parker and Erroll Garner.

Though close friends would simply know him as “O.P.,” decades earlier Duke Ellington would call Peterson the “maharaja of the keyboard.”

Personnel:

Oscar Peterson, keyboard
Joe Pass, guitar
Dave Young, bass
Martin Drew, drums
