Jo Jones (1911-1985) was one of the great drummers to emerge from the 1930s, originally becoming famous for driving the Count Basie Orchestra.
He had a long solo career after leaving Basie in the late 1940s including working and recording regularly in Europe.
From 1969, this version of “Caravan” is a showcase for Jones, with organist Milt Buckner only playing during its final minute.
Jo Jones displays his technique, imagination, restraint, and wit during his fascinating solo.
