Hiromi and Michel Camilo are two of the world’s greatest pianists. At a concert in Japan in 2014, they met up to explore and reinvent Juan Tizol’s “Caravan.”
Hiromi is a force of nature by herself while Camilo has been a giant on his instrument for decades.
Their performance begins with the two pianists trading off, the theme emerges around the four-minute mark, and the pianists constantly challenge each other, often on a very intense level.
Camilo matches Hiromi’s thunder and virtuosity and the results are quite memorable and passionate with the pianists constantly smiling at each other’s ideas, somehow consistently playing the impossible.
