Chega de Saudade – 1976

Stan Getz

A rare version of a classic bossa nova

While tenor-saxophonist Stan Getz did not invent bossa-nova, the success of his bossa nova records made it seem as if the style was invented for him.

Getz often avoided playing much bossa-nova after the mid-1960s, perhaps being a bit embarrassed by his commercial success when he really preferred to stretch himself into newer areas, but occasionally he would revive one of the Antonio Carlos Jobim songs that he had helped popularize.

This version of “Chega de Saudade (No More Blues)” was performed for a television show in Brazil with local musicians.
