This performance from the “Artie Shaw Orchestra” featuring drummer Nick Fatool is an excerpt from the 1940 film “Second Chorus.”

“Concerto for Clarinet” was composed by Artie Shaw.

The musical comedy, starring Paulette Goddard and Fred Astaire, was later referenced by Astaire as being ‘the worst film ever made,’ and Artie Shaw himself admitted that the movie deterred his further acting attempts.

Produced for Paramount Pictures by Boris Morros and directed by H. C. Potter, though considered a B movie, “Second Chorus” does a nice job showcasing Artie Shaw’s Orchestra. Shaw was nominated for two Oscars, for Best Score and Best Song, for his work in the film.
