Henry “Red” Allen had a long and productive career that spanned 40 years.
One of Allen’s most exciting groups was his mid-1940s combo which also featured trombonist J.C. Higginbotham and the now-forgotten but very good altoist Dan Stovall.
On this Soundie from 1946, the band swings hard on the jump number “Count Me Out” while joined by a pair of excellent if unidentified dancers.
