Encore

Keith Jarrett

Kan-i Hoken hall, Tokyo, Japan, 1984

Here’s Keith Jarrett doing some improvising – what he and his mother would claim was that at which he was best. (She said he might just be a conduit for the “creator.”)

Trumpet god Miles Davis claimed that Jarrett was unique for his ability to “play from nothing.” And indeed Jarrett’s astonishing encore to this Tokyo performance expresses just that. His left-hand playing is truly amazing.
