A very versatile pianist whose weekly Livestreams with his trio featured notable jazz greats as guests, Emmet Cohen can play anything from stride piano to very modern and free explorations.
At a concert in late 2019 with the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, he performs four Fats Waller-associated songs: “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Keepin’ Out Of Mischief Now,” “Two Sleepy People,” and “Jitterbug Waltz.”
Cohen plays the songs within the 1950s jazz piano tradition (more Oscar Peterson than Waller), swinging all the way with the big band joining in, particularly during “Jitterbug Waltz.”
