Joanne Brackeen has been a major pianist since at least the early 1970s when she became the first female member of the Jazz Messengers, later touring with Stan Getz and leading many groups of her own.
Always an adventurous but swinging pianist with an original sound of her own, Brackeen is in joyful form on this 1998 performance with bassist Steve Kirby and drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, playing her colorful original “Ghost Butter.”
