The innovative trumpeter and big bandleader Don Ellis (1934-78) became well known for having his orchestra play in unusual time signatures but he was also a pioneer in mixing together acoustic and electric instruments, and he always put on enthusiastic and colorful shows.
His last album before his premature death from heart failure was recorded at the 1977 Montreux Jazz Festival and fortunately it was also filmed.
In addition to featuring Don Ellis on his slide trumpet, “Go No Go” has an early solo from 19-year old Ted Nash who is featured on alto.
