Pianist Emmet Cohen and his trio with bassist Philip Norris and drummer Kyle Poole plus guest tenor Julian Lee, join singer Tierney Sutton for a spirited version of a song that Marilyn Monroe made famous: “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.”
The rhythm section gives the song a New Orleans r&b boogaloo rhythm that makes it sound very much like a different tune.
Tierney Sutton gets into the spirit during her vocal which is followed by an inventive bass solo and a powerful statement by Cohen.
