Christian Sands has been a major pianist ever since graduating from the Manhattan School Of Music and joining Christian McBride’s Inside Straight in 2013 although by then he had already recorded four albums of his own, including one made when he was 14.
A superior player in the modern mainstream of jazz, in 2014 he was one of the finalists in the American Pianists Awards, resulting in a filmed appearance at the Jazz Kitchen.
25 at the time, Sands is featured in a trio with bassist Nick Tucker and drummer Kenny Phelps exploring “Have You Met Miss Jones.”
It begins with Sands playing a bit inside the piano while Tucker states a pedal point.
Gradually the melody emerges and, by the second half of this extended performance, Sands and the trio are playing with furious passion
