Regina Carter ranks with Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli, Stuff Smith, Eddie South, Jean Luc Ponty and just a few others as one of the top jazz violinists of all time.
Taken from fairly early in her career, this 2001 film clip features Carter performing with George Wein’s Newport All Stars.
Their version of “I Can’t Believe That You’re In Love With Me” is slower and more relaxed than usual with fine solos from Wein (always an excellent pianist), an unidentified guitarist, and Carter.
Regina Carter otherwise never recorded with George Wein, making this a collector’s item in addition to being an enjoyable performance.
