Monk’s drummer Ben Riley and bassist Larry Gales resigned from Monk’s band just before he was scheduled to leave on a European tour, giving him a very short time to find replacements.

Young musicians Paris Wright and Nate Hygelund were recruited to join the band, first playing dates across Europe before arriving in Paris to give this televised concert.

Personnel:

Thelonious Monk – piano
Charlie Rouse – tenor sax
Nate Hygelund – bass
Paris Wright – drums
