Tenor-saxophonist Benny Golson composed “I Remember Clifford” after trumpeter Clifford Brown’s tragic death in a car accident when he was 25 in 1956.
50 years later at a Clifford Brown memorial concert in Europe, Golson talks briefly about the song and then features trumpeter Randy Brecker on a memorable rendition of his famous ballad.
With accompaniment by pianist Mike LeDonne, bassist Reggie Johnson, and drummer Al Foster, Brecker creates a version that is melodic, dazzling, and touching.
