While most jazz magazines tend to focus on the more cutting edge players and the popular singers, every style of jazz is still being played around the world and often at a very creative level.
Although they may not generate many headlines since they focus on New Orleans and 1920s/30s jazz, trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso and clarinetist Evan Christopher are among the best on their instruments.
At a jam session with the Emmet Cohen trio (pianist Cohen, bassist Russell Hall and drummer Kyle Poole), they stretch out on an uptempo version of “When I Grow Too Old To Dream.”
The solos are filled with excitement and the momentum and tempo never slow down during this exhilarating performance.
