Bud Powell – 2020

Warren Wolf & Joe Locke

Two great vibraphonists explore a Chick Corea tune

Although it is very difficult during this era, Todd Barkan’s Keystone Korner Baltimore has been producing some new jazz performances.

It is somewhat rare when two major vibraphonists perform together, but Joe Locke and Warren Wolf met up recently, collaborating on Chick Corea’s “Bud Powell” with accompaniment supplied by bassist Jeff Reed.

Joe Locke has been a major player since the late 1980s and has worked with (among many others) Grover Washington Jr, Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Eddie Palmieri, Geoff Keezer, and even Cecil Taylor plus his own projects.

Warren Wolf emerged 15 years later but has also quickly risen to the top of his field, working with Christian McBride, Jeremy Pelt, Bobby Watson, Tia Fuller and the SF Jazz Collective.

Locke and Wolf display complementary styles and their summit meeting results in a joyful performance.
