It was said that Zoot Sims (1925-85) fell out of bed swinging, and that he was incapable of not playing an exciting chorus.
A beloved tenor who sounded equally comfortable playing with Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, or in a quartet, Sims made every date into a jumping session.
This rare clip from the 1958 Cannes Jazz Festival also gives viewers a chance to see pianist Walter Davis, Jr, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Art Taylor, all swinging with Zoot.
