Trumpeter Dave Douglas has had a wide-ranging career, playing everything from free improvisations and Third-Stream works to intimate improvisations and even tributes to Miles Davis and Mary Lou Williams.

One of his most fun projects was his Brass Ecstasy, an ensemble-oriented quintet consisting of his trumpet, trombonist Luis Bonilla, Vincent Chauncey on French horn, tuba player Marcus Rojas, and drummer Nasheet Waits.

The three songs heard on this 2009 concert are at times reminiscent of a New Orleans brass band although the harmonies are more modern and the results are both moody and unpredictable.
