Altoist Lee Konitz (1927-2020) and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli (1926-2020) never recorded together despite living and being active during the same period of time.
At the 1978 Nice Jazz Festival they shared a rare set and performed a duo version of “Invitation.”
Their playing is typically tasteful and melodic with Konitz fully embracing the melody over Pizzarelli’s chordal accompaniment, making one wish they had done this much more often.
