Oklahoma native Sam Rivers was a talented multi-instrumentalist who earned particular acclaim during the rise of free jazz in the ’60s. In the ’70s Rivers ran Manhattan’s “Studio Rivbea,” a jazz loft where artists could establish their own spaces to offer their talents for public display. This was a break from the typical club or nightlife venue that had usually accompanied presentations of jazz.

Personnel:

Sam Rivers, tenor sax, voice
