At the 1977 Nice Jazz Festival, there was quite a gathering of top swing-based players.
The sextet consists of cornetist Ruby Braff, trumpeters Harry “Sweets” Edison and Joe Newman, the brilliant pianist Johnny Guarnieri, bassist Michael Moore and drummer Ray Mosca.
All of the musicians have chances to be in the spotlight with Braff taking a brief spot, a muted Edison typically using repetition quite effectively, Newman sounding heated, and Guarnieri combining Art Tatum runs with stride piano while stealing solo honors.
