During 2016-17, veteran producer-arranger-composer Quincy Jones’ early 1970s recordings were saluted with special concerts at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl.

Jones (who was 84 at the time) went onstage at the Bowl to conduct an all-star big band on his arrangement of “Killer Joe.”

Bassist Christian McBride was the musical director, Dave Grusin is on piano, and soloists include flutist Hubert Laws and trumpeter Sean Jones with Valerie Simpson having the vocal.
