Carlos Averhoff is featured on flute and
tenor during a rousing classical number

Taken from a 1981 concert, Chucho Valdes and Irakere feature Carlos Averhoff on a Cuban classical melody.

Averhoff begins on flute, playing a beautiful melody with backing by Valdes on electric piano.

After he switches to tenor, Averhoff wails during a passionate solo, the band joins in with some wild playing (including impressive high-note trumpet), and the celebratory melody is taken out by the tenor, who is in fine form throughout.

Personnel:

Chucho Valdes, piano
Jorge Varona, trumpet
Juan Munguia, trumpet
German Velazco, alto sax, soprano sax
Carlos Averhoff, tenor sax, flute
Jose Luis Cortes “El Tosco,” flute, baritone sax
Carlos Emilio Morales, guitar
Carlos del Puerto, bass
Enrique Piano, percussion
Jorge Alfonso “El Nin,” congas
Oscar Vales, percussion, vocals
