Chuck Mangione

Mangione at the peak of his powers and fame

One of the most popular jazz musicians of the 1970s and ‘80s, flugelhornist Chuck Mangione had a major pop hit with “Feels So Good” but also made several other numbers popular including “Land Of Make Believe.”

Mangione, who had played with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers for a year in the 1960s, was a bebopper at heart as he tended to show at his live concerts.

Here he is on June 22, 1979 leading the Tonight Show Orchestra through “Land Of Make Believe” with guitarist Grant Geissman and Chris Valada on piccolo and soprano.
