Anita O’Day, incredible and unique jazz vocalist, was born with the surname Colton. But she changed it to a homophone of “dough,” meaning money, in pig Latin.

Here she’s jamming with her long time colleague drummer John Poole for a 13-song set. The year: 1986.

O’Day lived out the truism that age can all be in your head. She released her final album, “Indestructible!,” at 86, only months before her death.
