Ever since he left his native South Africa in the early 1960s and settled in Europe and the United States, Hugh Masekela has been one of the main symbols of South African music.

Throughout his career, the trumpeter, flugelhornist and singer has blended together melodies, rhythms and lyrics from his South African heritage with jazz improvising and aspects of pop music.

This lengthy performance, recorded at Estival Jazz Lugano in 2009, features Masekela and his sextet performing eight grooving and funky numbers including his famous hit “Grazing In The Grass.”
